Cannabis farmer jailed

Saturday, 15 September 2012

AN ILLEGAL immigrant who used the top two floors of a town house to grow 300 cannabis plants has been jailed for more than two years.

Vietnamese Van Tuan Nguyen, 26, of no fixed abode, was caught by police as he tried to escape from the home in Thorneycroft Drive, Enfield Island Village.

Following a tip-off from neighbours, officers called on the house, to find the top two floors of the property had been converted in a cannabis factory.

Nguyen appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to the production of a class B drug.

He admitted that he had travelled to the UK illegally to pay off a debt he owed in Vietnam.

He was sentenced to 27 months in prison.
